What it means to practice Nonviolent Communication

Nonviolent Communication is often understood as a way of speaking. But in practice, it begins within yourself.

Especially in emotional moments, the challenge is not knowing the model — it’s staying connected to what is happening inside you.

Practice is different from knowing

You may know observations, feelings, needs, and requests.

But in real situations, things move fast. Practice is where you slow down and begin to notice.

It often begins with self-empathy

Before speaking, there is a quiet step: reconnecting with yourself.

What happened? What am I feeling? What matters to me?

There is no perfect way

Sometimes it’s just pausing. Sometimes realizing what mattered only after the moment has passed.
